Why a Wonder: Antarctica is by its very existence a wonder. One of the most remote and inhospitable places on the planet, yet there's so much raw natural beauty nestled amongst its frozen expanse.
Where: Cuverville Island, Antarctica.
When: January, 2014.
Photography: The stormy overcast skies gives this a sense of cold moodiness. The decision to go with a shallow depth of field to help the cormorants pop off of the glacier in the background helps this feel like part portrait and part landscape.
