I was alone for Thanksgiving day this year, so I took a hike at my local state park. The one photographic subject that caught my eye was this tree by the side of the trail, with a fern growing at its base. The best composition turned out to be one that pointed the camera up more and left out the fern. The clouds cleared for a few minutes to produce this image. I brightened the shadows to bring out some detail in the trees, but not so much as to make it look unnatural. 20mm, 1/125 second at f/9, ISO 100.
