This image was taken in January 2022 on the Buffalo River in Island Park Idaho from the dock of the River Front Retreat. It was below zero when I took this. The river is entirely spring fed and therefore is a constant 45-50 degrees year-round and therefore never freezes over. Because of this it creates a lot of fog coming off of the river since it is so much warmer than the air around it. This was a bracketed image of three shots taken 2 stops apart and merged in Aurora HDR and finishing touches were completed in Lightroom. The trestle is an old, abandoned railroad trestle from the St. Anthony/Union Pacific Railroad that ran from Ashton Idaho to West Yellowstone from 1909 to 1979 when it was abandoned. The railroad was instrumental in tourism developing in the area just west of Yellowstone National Park.
