Dead Horse Point
Updated: Apr 20, 2022
Why a Wonder: Dead Horse Point State Park offers a sweeping, dramatic, awesome and awe-inspiring view of the Colorado River and Canyonlands National Park.

Where: Moab, Utah.
When: Spring and Fall months.
Photography: Think panoramas. A panorama (5-shot hand-held pano above) conveys the vastness of this landscape much more effectively than a wide-angle lens shot (16mm below).

Because the landscape is often more interesting than the sky, place the horizon line near the top of the frame.
To reduce atmospheric haze, use a polarizing filter. DeHaze in Photoshop and Lightroom can help you create a sharper image, too. Try adding a touch of Texture, too.

Sunrise is the best time for photography. You’ll need to get there in the dark to get a good photo position, as the overlook can get very crowded with photographers with tripods.
Good news for landscape photographers: Arches National Park is only about 30 minutes away.
